Why your body feels stiff after sitting

Hi Reader,

You get out of bed feeling stiff and in pain.

You stand up after working for two hours, and your back feels tight.

Your knees need a moment.

So you tell yourself, I am just getting older, or I need to exercise more.

But I want to teach you something important:

Stiffness is a message.

Your body responds to what you repeatedly do and ask it to do every day.

When you sit for long periods, your muscles contract less, circulation slows down, and your cells receive fewer signals to use circulating glucose. Regular muscle contractions support metabolic function, blood and other fluids flow, and help your body maintain a healthy inflammatory response.

Even if you exercise every morning, several uninterrupted hours of sitting still matter.

Your environment is always communicating with your cells.

One Simple Shift This Week

Every hour during your day, stand up and walk for two minutes.

Set one repeating hourly reminder on your phone.

When it sounds, walk around your office, home, or building for two minutes. Then return to what you were doing.

That’s it.

You are not trying to burn calories or complete another workout. You are interrupting the long periods of stillness that can leave your body feeling sluggish and stiff.

Notice how your body feels when you stand up by the end of the week.

Small, repeated signals help create health from the inside out.
